1982
On 5th September 30th
AICUF Presidents, Secretaries and Senior members assembled at the Pastoral
Centre, Bandra, at the regional executive meeting. The participants discussed
various issues such as Militarism of the Indian Government, Poonamallee
document. The participants were led by Fr. Allwyn D’ Silva and Raymond D’
Silva. Thereafter elections were held to form the new Regional Executive
Committee. Br. Gilbert D’ Lima, than led the participants into the next
session on liberation Theology.
Fr. Raymond D’ Silva became
the first Indian to be appointed the Asian Chaplain of the IMCS from 1982-1984.
In the late eighties AICUF grew
through the hands of Fr. Conrad Mascarenhas, s.j. and then Fr. Frazer
Mascarenhas, s.j. at Xavier’s College Mumbai from 1986-1988 and from 1988-1990
respectively. During this period AICUFers took up various social involvement
programmes with the marginalized sections of the society.
