After AICUF
has formally proclaimed its option for the emancipation of women by
affirming ‘women’ as one of the thrust areas in 1989, in the 3rd
AICUF National Convention, it has taken serious efforts in creating space
for women students to grow in leadership.

After 1970, AICUF entered into a
serious social analysis and committed itself to work for the poor in India. The
students wanted to have separate training programmes for the Dalits.
Incorporating this idea of separate formation to the Dalit students, most of
the States conducted special camps and workshops regularly.

Marching with the marginalized was the theme of the 4th National
Convention of AICUF in 1999, in which Refugee Commission was approved.
It works in the units as 'Refugee Student's Association 'RSA'.
There are refugee students from Sri Lanka, Tibet, Bhutan and Africa.

Adivasi Yuva Chetna
Manch(AYCM) is the Adivasi(Tribal) commission of AICUF.
It is the youth awreness
forum that unites all Adivasi university students of the predominantly
Adivasi states if India. The need of uniting Adivasi students was in the
early nineties in AICUF and in 1994 AYCM was born in the National
Council.
